Church Covenant

Having been led by the Holy Spirit of God to accept Jesus Christ, and having been baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we prayerfully and sincerely make this covenant with one another as one body in Jesus Christ.

We believe that the central doctrine of our faith is that Christ is Lord. The ultimate source of authority is Jesus Christ, and every area of life is subject to his Lordship. God is revealed to all people through the Holy Spirit. Every individual is created in the image of God and merits Christian love, respect, and consideration as a person of infinite dignity and worth.

We believe in the biblical doctrine of the priesthood of the believer. Each Christian has direct access to God through Jesus Christ. Therefore, the Christian is his or her own priest, and is under obligation to become a priest for Christ on behalf of others.

We believe that the church is an autonomous body, subject only to Christ, its head. Its democratic government properly reflects the equality and responsibility of believers under the Lordship of Christ. The church and state are both ordained by God and are answerable to God. They must remain separate.

We believe that Christian stewardship envisions the whole life as a sacred trust from God, and requires the responsible use of life, time, talents, and substance, personal and corporate, in the service of Christ. We believe that the nature of Christian faith and experience makes teaching and training imperative. Christian education grows out of the relationship between faith and reason, and it calls for academic excellence and freedom that are both real and responsible.

We agree to live together in brotherly love. We will help one another to think, speak, and act as Christians. We will remember others in prayer and aid each other in sickness and distress. We will actively support the programs of the church through our attendance and participation, and will cheerfully contribute to ministry. We will seek to live the glory of God who has called us into His service. We will strive to become a mature people reaching to the very height of Christ's full stature.

When we move from this place, we will unite with some other church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God's work.
